You can travel to the other islands from St Peter Port harbour, there are daily service’s to Herm Sark and Alderney. These islands are like jewels around Guernsey and are very intriguing .

Herm is run as a ‘resort island’ or as a business with a small tidal harbour, a few small tourist shops with a pub called the Mermaid Tavern and a tiny Chapel along with the amazing White House Hotel.
The island has a number of cottages to rent for a holiday and campsites. Our advice is to make sure you have good walking shoes and make a point of going to Shell beach. Shell beach is the ideal place for the dedicated shell collector and sun worshiper!
As the name suggests the beach is made up of sand and shells. Sometimes passing yachts will moor just off the beach. A small cafe is available for food and light refreshments. Just along is Belvoir bay and well worth a visit. In recent years Herm island has become famous for its Flowers and has won Britain In Bloom Accolades. The small shops tend to be geared up for the tourist, with lots of beach items to buy. Make sure you visit the island on a good weather day as there is little weather protection. The island is very beautiful, and worth an explore as well as the scenic views across to Guernsey.

Sark
As the boat brings you towards Sark and slowly reduces its speed to enter Maseline Harbour you know that you have reached a very special place. The scenery is breath taking, as the island is very high and flat on top. Most of the houses lie in the centre of the island in a sheltered hollow and to reach the main village you have to go up the steep harbour hill. You have two choices: to walk up a steep path or use the ‘toast rack’ an open sided tractor drawn cart!

Both Herm and Sark are car free islands and as you walk around you really do get a sense of the real Channel Island culture. You could be stepping back in time and a far cry from the hustle and bustle of it’s bigger island neighbour’s of Jersey and Guernsey. The centre part or main street is called the ‘Avenue’ and it has lots of tiny small shops and definatly worth exploring with not a UK high street store in sight other than the established Banks. Sark is very tranquil and do make a point of visiting the Lord of The Manors home: the ‘Seigneurie’.
Only the Gardens are open to the public, however the Manor House is very fine and steeped in history. Its worth taking a day trip just to look at the different houses, buildings, lanes and breath taking landscape. This island must be put at the top of any visitors list. Both Herm and Sark have good hotels and are ideal for a holiday or short break or for a total recharge from modern city life!

Brecqhou and Jethou
These smaller islands of Jethou and Brecqhou are privately owned and are not open to the public.
Brecqhou is owned by the millionaire brothers, the ‘Barclays’ who have built Europe’s newest gothic castle on the island and a small village. You can get views of the island from Sark or as you approach Sark by boat.
Jethou again is not open to the public but a ‘private paradise’. You can glimpse the island from Herm or passing by on the way to Sark by boat.
